Well, it looks like another chapter in Austin’s life is about to unfold.  I spent my last summer working for two firms, and decided just recently to work for one of them out in Texas.  It took me a long time to make the decision too, and I had a couple great offers to choose from.  My biggest issue was leaving my family and all my close Atlanta friends.  Sure I spent a summer in San Diego working, 4 years in Austin in college, and another summer in Ireland; but all of those moves were temporary.  This is permanent.  I’ll be getting a house, putting down roots, and working a full-time job.

Friends of mine that are attorneys (and anyone who’s an attorney and reading this is probably thinking this) have told me “Austin don’t worry…your first job is just a short stint, a year or two, and you’ll move on.”  The truth is, I’m not like that, and I don’t want that.  I like to make a place and stay there…so for me this decision feels like leaving permanently, and believe me it’s a rough thought.  The good news, and what really helped me through this decision, is the experience I had with this firm.  I had a great time not only doing the work the firm had, but really enjoyed just spending time at the office and the social events with them.  The people were some of the smartest and most amazing I have ever met.  And I’ve got friends in Houston, who are happy to have me back.  I just hope I didn’t piss everyone there off for taking longer than everyone else in my class to decide.  We’ll see guys, wish me luck.
